Of course I get to spend time with you…and you with me, the quirky, funky artisan behind Silver Lynx jewellery, seeing inside my psyche (I won’t scare you, I promise,  I’m not that spooky     mwahaha).

Oh!  And I’m launching a NEW product line, with birthstones, that YOU, dear online friend, get to see FIRST – before the Christmas shows, before anyone else!

I love words.  I love how words weave into stories that morph into pictures that grab my imagination.  I prefer a good book over a movie any day.  Words, well written, allow me to create my own movie.  Predominately, I think in words. 

 Words, phrases, quotes have the power of motivation, connection

They can uplift and make you smile

That’s been me

All the last week

Perhaps it was the full moon.  More likely it’s the change of seasons. 

FALL

I can feel it in the air.  That little crisp undertone.  The long, golden sun rays that warm, not bake or burn.  Here, at this time of year, nature starts to wind down, preparing for rest and rejuvenation.  For sleep over the winter. 

What do we humans do?  We step it up a notch.  Kids go back to school; in workplaces, vacations end and meetings or projects start. 

For me, I have 4 more weeks of summer market, and in less than 10 short weeks, Christmas shows BEGIN.  In the meantime, my self-imposed deadlines on projects  include:  Launching a new website (yeah!) and ensuring my retail spots have enough product.  Oh, and I need to make product for said Christmas shows.

Did you hear that????? 

That was me…freaking out…just a bit…

I read this over at Re:Focus:

 Just as there is much more of an incentive to lose a few pounds than to stay the same weight, just as there is much more of an incentive to run your next race faster than to  run it at the same pace, the incentive to improve is always more powerful than the false incentive to stay in one place, even if it’s the best. In my life at this time, I have been wading into this jewellery business for the past two, two and a half years.  Really just dipping my toes in to see how the water is, while at the same time gripping on to my yoga teaching lifeline. Since I am a bit of a rolling stone, I have been uncharacteristically a bit afraid to take the next steps, to leap, to forge ahead.   

Life is full of momentum and opportunity, should we only choose to seize it.  It is a step by step adventure, a string of NOW, this moment, that we, each of us, continue to create.

And so, I opened my hands and let go of my yoga teaching. 

I had to. 

Be brave enough to live life creatively. The creative is the place where no one else has ever been. You have to leave the city of your comfort and go into the wilderness of your intuition. You can’t get there by bus, only by hard work and risk and by not quite knowing what you are doing. What you’ll discover will be wonderful. What you’ll discover will be yourself. ~ Alan Alda

Don’t worry; I haven’t forgotten you, my friend.  I have some great things planned for us this fall…I can’t wait to tell you!

I LOVE Winnie-the-Pooh.   My portal into my wee imagination.  I would gather my stuffed animals and play 100 acre wood, blankets and cushions and chairs all over the living room creating the map above.  Whenever we crossed a bridge over a rushing stream, I wanted to play “pooh sticks”.  I talked continually about Pooh Bear, Piglet and the rest.  My sister-in-law sewed me all the characters.  (I still have them).  I wanted a Pooh Bear birthday party.  I wanted a huge tree door to my room, just like Christopher Robin, so I could be in the 100 acre wood all the time.

Every summer, my family would gather at “the Lake” – a piece of family property with cabins and wildness and of course, a lake.  I transported the world of Pooh to our summer home and created my own hundred acre wood.  I made the “Pooh Trails” and led everyone on an adventure tour of the 100 acre wood. 

I found a beaver-chewed stick that looked exactly like Piglet and wanted my grandfather to make it into something special, with agate eyes.  He had never heard of Winne-the-Pooh!  I was in disbelief – how could you NOT know Pooh, Piglet, Eeyore, Kanga, Roo, Rabbit, Owl and Tigger!   We had to read him the stories.

Just for today, go, find your own hundred acre wood; unleash your imagination.  As Pooh says:

“Don’t underestimate the value of Doing Nothing, of just going along, listening to all the things you can’t hear, and not bothering.”  

I went to Norway as a teenager on exchange.  During our first few weeks, we had language camp at an agricultural school up on a mountain side.  One of our activities was to hike to a cabin for an overnight stay to experience the Norwegian outdoors.  Our leader, Geir, got to telling us folk tales of trolls and ogres and the like, after which we went for a hike at dusk.  

You are aware of the Billy Goats Gruff, and how the troll under the bridge was going to eat them up?  Well on our hike, we came to a bridge over a stream.  ***Rustle, rustle*** from the undergrowth was all it took for several teenage girls to go screaming down the trail!  

Of course, it was nothing.  

We had fed the trolls…that place in the imagination where ugly, hairy thoughts live. 

In our media savvy world, trolls have taken on a new role, a new definition.  According to Wikipedia , internet trolls are people who post “inflammatory, extraneous, or off-topic messages in an online community… with the primary intent of provoking other users into a desired emotional response” (emphasis mine) 

Trolls, love ‘em or hate’em, push our buttons and wrap us up in our emotions, illicting actions that can be irrational and damaging  to ourself or others.  

So, please, don’t feed the trolls.  

Especially the big, hairy one in your mind.
