SNEAK PEEK: A preview, especially of something not yet public.
I bring you a brief glimpse of what will be on my new website ~ the one I have been building, pixel by pixel, to give you a better experience of Silver Lynx.
Of me, of my jewellery.
I’ll have squares, and circles and colourful, pretty things for you:
And descriptions of what goes into my work, along with:
Of course I get to spend time with you…and you with me, the quirky, funky artisan behind Silver Lynx jewellery, seeing inside my psyche (I won’t scare you, I promise, I’m not that spooky mwahaha).
Oh! And I’m launching a NEW product line, with birthstones, that YOU, dear online friend, get to see FIRST – before the Christmas shows, before anyone else!

“With the right words, you can change the world”
~ Charlotte A. Cavatica in the 2006 movie version of Charlotte’s Web ~
I love words. I love how words weave into stories that morph into pictures that grab my imagination. I prefer a good book over a movie any day. Words, well written, allow me to create my own movie. Predominately, I think in words.
Words, phrases, quotes have the power of motivation, connection
They can uplift and make you smile
Be a call to action:
Or they can just be FUN*
All you need to do is
*Thanks to Kitsgal for ‘tickle the day’.
That’s been me
All the last week
Perhaps it was the full moon. More likely it’s the change of seasons.
I can feel it in the air. That little crisp undertone. The long, golden sun rays that warm, not bake or burn. Here, at this time of year, nature starts to wind down, preparing for rest and rejuvenation. For sleep over the winter.
What do we humans do? We step it up a notch. Kids go back to school; in workplaces, vacations end and meetings or projects start.
For me, I have 4 more weeks of summer market, and in less than 10 short weeks, Christmas shows BEGIN. In the meantime, my self-imposed deadlines on projects include: Launching a new website (yeah!) and ensuring my retail spots have enough product. Oh, and I need to make product for said Christmas shows.
Did you hear that?????
That was me…freaking out…just a bit…
Isn’t that where the fruit is? ~Frank Scully
I read this over at Re:Focus:
Just as there is much more of an incentive to lose a few pounds than to stay the same weight, just as there is much more of an incentive to run your next race faster than to run it at the same pace, the incentive to improve is always more powerful than the false incentive to stay in one place, even if it’s the best. (emphasis added)
In my life at this time, I have been wading into this jewellery business for the past two, two and a half years. Really just dipping my toes in to see how the water is, while at the same time gripping on to my yoga teaching lifeline. Since I am a bit of a rolling stone, I have been uncharacteristically a bit afraid to take the next steps, to leap, to forge ahead.
Life is full of momentum and opportunity, should we only choose to seize it. It is a step by step adventure, a string of NOW, this moment, that we, each of us, continue to create.
And so, I opened my hands and let go of my yoga teaching.
I had to.
Be brave enough to live life creatively. The creative is the place where no one else has ever been. You have to leave the city of your comfort and go into the wilderness of your intuition. You can’t get there by bus, only by hard work and risk and by not quite knowing what you are doing. What you’ll discover will be wonderful. What you’ll discover will be yourself. ~ Alan Alda
You can’t wait for inspiration. You have to go after it with a club. ~Jack London
Tara Gentile asks today: Are you desperate?
Not in that clingy, irrational, crazy way. But in the must do something way. In the good way that drives you into action, forces you to make decisions and causes you to take risks.
I am there with the biz…pushing my own envelope, creating and imagining big things. Taking advantage of learning opportunities that have landed in my lap.
What does that all mean?
It means I have gone after inspiration with a club.
Jack London would be proud.
Today…well technically yesterday, April 1st, is start of the market season. I had planned to start today, being Good Friday, and with the nice spring we have experienced, I was expecting to be out among the sun and flower-starved tourists from other locales.
Apparently, our weather has a different idea. At this moment, about 8:30 am, the grey, shaggy rain clouds are scurrying across the sky, pushed along by winds puffing at 40km/hr creating waves on the puddle in the lot behind me. Forecast is not much brighter…rain, with winds gusting to 80km/hr (hang onto small dogs).
But this is Victoria and while I am not optimistic for today I have in the past woken up to clouds and rain, and ended up down at market in the sun. I usually give it until 11 to make final call.
This is the second year I will wheel my wares down the street, 6 blocks or so, to take part in the Artisan Market at Bastion Square here in Victoria. I set my table up, weather permitting, three to four days a week. It is an opportunity for me to be outside and for me to interact with the public. And for me to get my work out there to see the reaction.
I enjoy the interaction both with the public and with my fellow artisans. It makes the work week contain variety, which of course is the spice of life. It’s quirky and colourful.
In order to get ready for the season, I set up my table in my living room. I have new product this year and I have a different way to display it. So, I needed a trial run to ensure it goes somewhat smoothly at first set up.
Here’s a few photos…
Wait, did you see that? Over there in the corner? Yup, that’s my cat, Hobbes “helping” with the display. Fuzzy, little helper, placing light cat fur on all my nice dark colours…Ah, they had to be washed any way.
So, for now, I wait out the weather. If not today, then tomorrow; or perhaps it will be next week.
***PS: I think this dark theme has to go. Look for brightening up to come soon.
